On August 13, 2018 Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) and the Global Design Thinking Alliance (GDTA) hosted a conference dedicated to the topic “Designing Digital Transformation: Focus on Society” at Hasso Plattner Institute, New York.
Together with more than 60 participants, we explored the opportunities Design Thinking creates in shaping a common vision for our digitized future and its potential to drive sustainable development of our society.
Johan Bornebusch of Södertörn University shared how the city of Stockholm turned to Design Thinking school Open Lab to foster Social Innovation and presented his initiative “Reality Lab” that engages staff of a nursing home and its inhabitants with dementia in co-creation sessions to develop innovative solutions. GDTA member Dato Lee Yew Meng talked about how the Genovasi d.school helps designing Malaysia by training public service personnel in Design Thinking.
The conference was also honored by a high-level visit from Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network and Director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University, who gave a keynote speech on the Global Sustainability Goals.
